Need to stream audio on port 8080

Postby bushrat » Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:24 pm

Need to stream some state-of-Alaska meetings online, but no workee. State is using port 8080 and I assume starband has it blocked. Is there any fix or workaround for this that anyone knows of?
Thanks,
Mark

Max, it's just audio. When in town it comes in just fine on this laptop, so I'm current on the software needed. Had the state tech guy look into it and he says it's a starband thing with port 8080 they use. FYI, the meeting is tomorrow, July 28 at 1:30pm.
Thanks,
Mark

Waiting for a response from a senior network engineer. I should have a response before your deadline.

Port 8080 isn’t blocked both ways. The only way this would be an issue is if the stream was originating at the VSAT.

can you post the link to the stream so they can try it at the NOC.

can you describe exactly how you try to connect and what happens. IE no connection, errors, freezes or drops. As much info as possible would help.

will the stream only be available at that time?

Max,

The link and audio stream only works when the meeting is in progress. This has been the link in the past:
http://www.multimedia.adfg.alaska.gov:8 ... 0of%20game

I recall that when I try to connect via starband it just comes up with some kind of can't connect error or connection interrupted. Don't recall exactly what it is but will know later today <grin>.

Have spoken with others who live remote and have starband, same thing. Others that have Hughesnet don't have problems. In town going in on any other ISP it works fine, and will stream in a variety of players I have on this laptop. Mostly I use Windows Media Player. But no matter how I try to access the link, either via the software putting in the url or just clicking on the link, no workee, and have been in contact with state tech guy while trying (via email) and he says the audio is up.

Here is link (small pdf file) on the actual emergency meeting: http://www.boards.adfg.state.ak.us/game ... -final.pdf
Thanks, Mark

If I click on the first link I get an error cannot display webpage. If I open the second link to the PDF and then use the link in the pdf it takes me to a home page but it's not clear on that page where you click for the stream?

This is on a DSL connection in FL

The actual link won't show up until 1:30 pm Alaska time, sometimes they are a bit late. The link on the pdf file just redirects to their home page, where they should have the real link at 1:30.

hummm, senior engineer will most like not be at the NOC at that hour EST. Maybe he can get someone to give it a shot on his behalf.
