Satellite modem is disconnected

Postby diginut » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:38 am

I really need help. Every since being repointed, I now have a problem with the green Mission Control icon going black. I can be in the middle of something and the icon goes black and it says "Satellite modem is disconnected." I have to reboot my modem. When it comes on it says "not authorized." and sometimes says "web page accelerator down." Then I have to unplug cable between my computer and the modem and replug it, and then the green light comes back on. This happens several times a night. I have called technical support more than once. The last time they had me reinstall Starband. Nothing seems to help. This never happened before being repointed. I wish I could find someone that knows how to fix this problem. The repoint was done by a company sent out by Starband. My signal has been between 10 and 11. I am on Cluster 7, subcluster 65. They have suggested I switch to Nova, but no guarantee that this will fix the problem. Please help!!! :?

Are you connected via USB or Ethernet?

You might try the other connection ... especially if it's USB now, you can then uninstall the USB drivers, which were always the biggest source of problems with the 360, if I remember right. ;)

Thank you very much for your reply. I must say that I really don't know a whole lot about computers. I went into Control Panel, Network Connections and there are 3 of them. I really don't know if it is USB or Ethernet.

1394 Connection 3, connected, 1394 Net Adapter
Local Area Connection, connected, Broadcom Net Xtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
1394 Connection 4, connected, 1394 Net Adapter #2

They all say connected. I guess I can try calling Starband technical support again and give them this information and see if they can help. My son used to help me with computer issues but he moved away. Anyway, thanks for answering. :)

As far as the web page accelerator down problem, there's a great free utility that allows you to reset that simply without rebooting. I believe it's Microsoft's ProcessExplorer,

I'm not at a computer with SB installed right now so I can't tell you which line needs to be stopped and restarted. I'm thinking it's the RPA line, but someone else can probably confirm this.

If the Local Area Connection is active (no red X in the lower right of your screen), then you are connected via Ethernet.

You can also verify by checking the back of your modem. If the cable connecting the modem to the PC has a connector that looks like a large telephone connector, you are using Ethernet.

If not, it is USB.

If Ethernet, go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel and look for somethings that says "USB". Let me know what it says, if you see it.

If you are using Ethernet to connect, but have the USB drivers installed anyway, that could be causing your problem. If you're using Ethernet, the USB drivers can be uninstalled.
